D&T one win from promotion says Howrihane

ALMOST there!

DARTINGTON & Totnes skipper James Howrihane insists there is no room for complacency, even though promotion is in sight.

Harry Baxendale (4-26) and Will Gornall (3-32) completed a 49-run win over Yelverton last time out to keep D&T top of the shop.

Howrihane’s men have a 26-point lead over Bridestowe at the top of the table – 15 short of the winning post for promotion.

Darts face Bridestowe at Foxhole this Saturday in a potential promotion decider.

Darts are up if they win – Briddy can still win the title if they take the points.

The supposed safety net for D&T is they are away to neighbours Ashburton on the last Saturday of the season.

Winless Ashburton are already down and it would be a massive shock if D&T lost there.

Howrihane hasn’t forgotten what happened at Stoke Gabriel two weeks ago though and is rightly wary.

“Stoke have been second from bottom almost all season, yet we managed to lose to them without too much difficulty,” said Howrihane.

“It is important to remember we haven’t won anything yet and we can’t assume anything until we win one more game. If we do that against Bridestowe, I will feel much happier.”

Darts made 209 for five against Yelverton, built around a stand of 126 for the third wicket between Ben van Niekerk (73) and Chris Cook (68).

Cook may be well into his 50s, but his arrival from Clyst St George during the winter has proved a real asset for D&T.

Yelverton made sold progress to 128 for five with Richard West (31) and Richard Townsend (28) leading the way with 67.

Rob Grove had 29, but once the rot set in there as no stopping it.

Five wickets fell for 32 runs once Baxendale and Gornall got going to leave Yelverton all out for 160
