WILL there be a result in this year’s Graeme Townsend Memorial Match at Knightshayes?
Two of the last three meetings have ended in ties, including last year’s tussle.
The game, now in its 17th year, remembers former Heathcoat secretary Graeme Townsend, who died in 1999.
Graeme, who was born disabled and spent large parts of his life in a wheelchair, loved his cricket and channelled his enthusiasm into working for the club and supporting brothers Gareth and David.
Gareth played for Somerset and Devon and now coaches at Surrey.
David also played for Devon before emigrating to Australia.
The match isn't just to remember Graeme, but played as a fund-raiser for junior cricket.
The format is the same every year: a Graeme Townsend Select XI against A Tiverton & District XI in a 40-over game for the memorial trophy.
The Heathcoat Select XI includes former Devon captain Nick Folland, Graeme’s brothers David and Gareth and ex-Heathcoat captain Cleve Jones, the former Willand Rovers manager
This year’s match is a week earlier than customary on Sunday, August 30. Start time is 2pm.
