NORTH Devon captain Barney Huxtable said desire was the reason his side turned over Sidmouth by 35 runs.
North Devon made 194 for five in 45 overs – five were lost to rain – them bowled out Sidmouth for 159 in reply.
Sidmouth bat a long way down so being 97 for five when Matt Hewer got out shouldn’t have been huge concern.
But the lower order didn’t fire as Callum French (3-33) spun out Sidmouth.
“We batted well on a turning pitch against one of Devon’s best spinners, Charlie Miles,” said Huxtable.
“I was really proud of the lads for fighting hard, even though there isn't a lot to play for at this time of the season.
“We bowled and fielded well and took wickets frequently by building pressure.
“I think it was a great effort to beat Sidmouth twice in one season.
“I think they are a top side and you can see why they have been so successful over the past five years.”
Callum French (29) and Tom Ansell (52) got North Devon away to a 57-run start then Max Curtis (44no) helped Ansell clock up another 60 for the second wicket.
Ansell and Quintin Dreyer went in quick succession to spin twins Cooke (3-40) and Jake Fawcett (1-30), but Tom Allin (40) and Curtis took North Devon most of the way to their final total in a partnership worth 49.
Cooke made 46 of the first 63 on the board, but lost Lewis and Harvey Sargent getting there.
Once the slide started there was no slowing it for long. King (2-26) took early wickets, Allin (2-25) a couple in the middle including Cooke and French wrapped up the tail.
Murray made a patient 37 off 60 balls and was last man out to Dreyer.
Sidmouth skipper Will Murray felt his side only had themselves to blame for the defeat.
“It can be difficult to get up for a game when there is nothing to play for, but we could have done better than we did,” said Murray.
“The pitch was good and a target of 195 to win was certainly chaseable.
“We didn’t apply ourselves as well as we can when we batted – and too many of our batters got themselves out.
“Matt Cooke batted well for his 46 and Liam Lewis got a very good ball from Josh King, but the rest of us could have done better.”
