Heathcoat happy to have gained experience

HEATHCOAT conclude their season with a home game against Plymouth, who will be making a happy return to Knightshayes.

The city side were there last Sunday for the Booker Wholesale Devon Cup final, in which they defeated Cornwood by four runs with two balls to spare.

Plymouth celebrated well after dark in the home dressing room, savouring the moment as long as they could.

Heathcoat are going to finish closer to the bottom than the top this year, having missed their top-four target by a distance.

Toby Lochead, the vice-captain, said the important thing was the team hadn’t gone down.

“At the start of the season we had ambitions of finishing in the top four,” said Lochead.

“That obviously hasn't worked out for us, which is disappointing but we haven't been relegated and the experience we have gained this year will be vital.

“We have a very young side - apart from Paul Elliott our oldest player has been 26 - which is a great thing for the club’s future.

“We believe that next year, with the current side, plus one or two players to strengthen in certain areas, we can compete at the right end of the division.”
