THE Plymouth & District League XI (above) defeated a Tamar League XI by eight wickets in an end-of-season challenge match between the two competitions. The Tamar League won the toss and elected to bat first at Yelverton..
Openers Chris Barriball and Gary Sizmur started with a few boundaries before Darren Bartropp had Barribal caught behind for nine.
There then followed a collapse of sorts as Cornwood's Andy Bees and Roborough's Bartropp took out the top order.
There was to be no respite as Matt Trevarrow (2-20) came into the attack to dispose of Dave Taylor and Martyn Credicott.
Dan Stones of Oddballs CC, the Plymouth & District skipper, was in dreamland as the onslaught continued.
Yelverton's Hadleigh Scott-Kirk took 3-12 and the Tamar League XI were in trouble.
Sizmur stood firm and carried his bat throughout the innings for a masterful 49 not out - more than half his team's total of 87
Stones opted to open with Jim Ambrose (Royal Mail & City Police CC) and George Thompson (Ivybridge) - and the pair did not disappoint.
Thompson in particular enjoyed the bowling of Hammy Kerswell and Tom Fogerty as he raced to 50 from just 32 balls before holing-out to Sambells.
The damage had been done as with the P&D team on 73 for one it was all but over.
Harry McEnaly was sorely disappointed to be given out lbw first ball but P&D skipper Stones came out to hit the winning runs and give the P&D XI a victory.
The committees agreed to the match in March as a friendly finale to the season, the aim being to have as many sides represented as possible and to promote friendly cricket between the two leagues.
Ten clubs had players on the field for the 18 over game.
'A game played in great spirits and enjoyed by all,' said Ryan Hewitt on behalf of the P&D League.
'It is the hope of both league committees that the fixture can be repeated next year.'
