Farley, Onley-Gregson and Moore win again at DCB youth awards

KENTISBEARE batsman Josh Farley was among the prize-winners again at the Devon Youth Cricket awards evening.

Farley (right) was player of the year in 2014 for the Devon U11 side. Twelve months on he took the batting award with 196 runs at an average of 24.20.

Farley was shortlisted for player of the year too, but missed out to Taylor Ingham-Hill of Bovey Tracey.

Another repeat winner was Heathcoat’s James Onley-Gregson, who won bowler of the year in 2014 in the U13 side. Fast forward a year and he topped the bowling returns again.

Filleigh CC had two winners. Under-10 batsman Cameron Ford won the county batting prize for his age group for scoring 250 runs.

And Ed Butler took the bowling award for claiming 14 wickets at an average of 17 runs each with a best of three for 21.

Barnstaple & Pilton’s Jack Moore (left) collected an award for the third year in a row. This time he was the under-13 batsman of the year for his tally of 274 runs.

Tarka Girls – North Devon’s ladies cricket team – had two award winners in the girls’ under-13 team.

Grace Heard was a deserved player of the year for scoring 186 runs at an average of 31. She also took six wickets at 12 runs each.

Olivia Churcher, who travels up from Kingsbridge in South Devon to play for Tarka, was the bowler of the season with remarkable stats of 12 wickets for just 22 runs.

Rose Ball (bowling) and Daisy Meadowcroft (batting) were nominated for awards in the under-15 section of the girls; awards but missed out on the top prize.

However, there was a special award for Ball, who acknowledge her inclusion in an England Development Camp.

More than 300 young cricketers – boys and girls – as well as coaches, parents and grand-parents filled the function suite at Sandy Park for the evening.

Guest of honour was Ryan Stevenson, the former Devon youth player who was signed by Hampshire this summer on a two-year contract after impressing for Torquay and Devon in the Minor Counties Championship.
