Devon volunteers nominated for OSCAs

TWO Thorverton stalwarts have been shortlisted for cricket OSCAs for their services to the game.
John Spry – known universally as Jock – has been nominated in the heartbeat of the club section.
Spry has been 1st XI captain, 2nd XI skipper and colts organiser at different times over a 10-year period.
Thorverton clubmate Mike Denford (left), another ex-skipper, has been proposed in the lifetime achievement category.
Topsham St James official Sheila Harding has been nominated in the leagues and boards category for her administration work,
As well as being her club’s league representative she is also a divisional results secretary.
Other nominees in Devon include Rob Baker (Plymstock), Andy Johnson (Ivybridge), Joe Berry (Seaton) and Pete Bamber (umpires).
The OSCAS – it stand of Outstanding Service to Cricket Awards – are handed out at Lord’s every year to the people who keep the grass roots of the game alive.
This is the 13th year of the awards, which are sponsored by NatWest Bank.
Hundreds of volunteers were nominated by clubs, leagues and county cricket boards.
The final shortlist has been chosen by a panel of representatives from the ECB, British Gymnastics, RFU and NatWest.
Devon’s nominees have all been invited to the presentations, which will be made by BBC cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew at Lord’s on October 12.
