FORMER county captain Neil Hancock won one last prize at South Devon CC’s end-of -season awards night.

Hancock, who has been with the Newton Abbot club for the past two seasons, doesn’t intend to play regular cricket next season

Twenty years in the game have taken their toll on Hancock, who lit up games for Torquay, Bovey Tracey, Paignton, Buckfastleigh, Sidmouth and finally South Devon during his career.

The old magic was still very much there during the 2015 season, when Hancock hit 966 runs for South Devon, including 139 against Plymstock.

It was that innings which earned Hancock the Bill Dalton Award for the performance of the season.

Paul Hooper (left) won the committee trophy for the most exciting innings of the season

Hooper hit an unbeaten 50 in the final game of the summer to see South Devon to a four-wicket win over Braunton that saved them from relegation and sent the north Devon side down instead.

Sean Day – 563 runs and 19 wickets – collected the W G Lewis Cup for all-rounder of the year.

Jon Martin (right), the 1st XI captain, was a winner twice over. He topped the 1st XI bowling stats with 28 scalps and was awarded the Tony Richardson Cup as player of the year.

The awards were handed out by Clive Meredith and Chris Hart from club sponsors Wollen Michelmore at South Devon’s annual dinner, which was held in the pavilion.
