Devon schools named in games top 10 by Cricketer magazine

SOUTH Dartmoor Community College’s success on the cricket field last summer has been recognised by one of the leading authorities on the game.
The Cricketer magazine has been reporting all aspects of the game since Sir Pelham Warner founded it in 1921.
The magazine’s 22,000 circulation makes it the best-read cricket publication in the world.
And South Dartmoor Community College has been listed by The Cricketer as one of the top schools for cricket in the country.
South Dartmoor cricketers are rubbing shoulders with rivals from Eton, Harrow and Millfield, in the magazine’s Playing Fields of England: An A-z guide to the Summer Game’s top 100 schools.
Blundell’s School in Tiverton is the only other school in Devon or Somerset to make it into the Top 100.
Judges started out with 450 schools on the long list, which was whittled down to
Summer 2015 saw South Dartmoor win County titles in five age groups as well as becoming Girls ECB U15 national champions and runners-up in different formats.
Part of the college coaching team is Scott Chappell, who works in schools in the partnership and with the Devon Cricket Board.
Chappell played a significant role in the successes of the Girls’ U15 side.

College student Ellie Ingham-Hill is on the National Development Pathway with England U15s.
Hugh Bellamy, the principal at South Dartmoor said: “We are proud of our cricketing programmes – our success is the culmination of several years of hard work.
“We are delighted to be acknowledged by The Cricketer magazine for this and be placed in the company of schools that regularly produce county and international cricketers.
“We are fortunate to have one of the country’s best coaches, Pete Sanderson from Somerset CCC, working with us every week.
“His expert coaching, backed up by a number of other dedicated school staff, means we can offer a cricket curriculum that is exceptional.”
Sanderson has coached across all levels, age groups and disciplines for Somerset CCC and the Cricket Board. Among his jobs is being the analyst for the 1st XI.
South Dartmoor is already accepting applications for students to join the post-16 cricket academy programme starting in September 2016.
The timetable includes weekly coaching, guest professional sessions, regular competition and a number of great opportunities for students wishing to challenge themselves and become the best cricketer they can.
