BUDLEIGH Salterton travel to Hatherleigh on Saturday with a huge boost to team spirit courtesy of Cephas Zhuwao.
The Zimbabwean international – nicknamed ‘Big Bully’ for his robust approach to batting – scored 88 and took four wickets for 33 runs to help set up a 23-run win over Barton.
Barton were 107 for two chasing 222 to win. Shaun Needham’s 94 wasn’t enough to get them over the line.
Lloyd White, the Budleigh captain, said Zhuwao knew which balls to hit and has defensive shots in his locker too.
White added: “His performance on début was absolutely superb and he has settled in very well since arriving.
“To top it all off he is an absolutely genuine nice bloke, who is keen to do as much as possible for the club.
“He went with the Under-10s on Sunday to warm them up before the game and umpire. A really nice lad.”
On Budleigh’s performance against Barton, White said: "I was delighted with the way the team fought back during the game - at 80 for none we could have really dropped our heads.
“Rob Craze, Andy Procter and Cephas in the middle overs really turned the screw and practically won us the game.
“The way Joe Gore and Joel Murphy responded in their second spells was also superb.
“We need to get the basics right though. taking catches, stopping singles and running between the wickets harder.”
