Piper on way back to Bradninch from Torquay

FORMER Bradninch captain Tim Piper has been explaining why he has left Torquay after five games and returned to his old club… again!

Piper had a brief stint with Torquay a decade ago having moved there from Bradninch. He went back after half a season.

Having been unable to lead Bradninch back into the Premier Division last season, Piper rejoined Torquay for the current campaign.

Torquay have been going well – they are top of the Premier table – and Piper has had a couple of scores.

But the pull off Bradnich proved too strong to resist and Piper is back at Kensham Park for a third spell.

“I couldn't have asked for more from Torquay,” said Piper.

“It's a great club and a top bunch of lads.

It's a shame to leave whilst the team is doing so well and I was enjoying my cricket there.

“But I am a Bradninch player really and that has just been reinforced by my move down there.

“It'll be good to be back with the lads at the Ninch and try to start climbing up that table.”

Piper said he underestimated the travel, which meant he wasn't training enough or playing enough in general.

He added: “The social side of cricket is important to me and I found it harder with the distance that I live from Torquay.

“I've only got good words to say about the club and the lads and I hope they stay at the top of that table.”

Justin Yau, the Torquay captain, said he was disappointed to lose Piper but not hugely surprised.

“Tim is heading back to Bradninch as his heart is still set there,” said Yau.

“He has made a useful contribution and he will be missed.

“He  found the travelling on public transport pretty demanding and he goes back to Bradninch with our blessing.

“We will remain good friends and we hope he enjoys his cricket back there.”

It is a case of one in and one out at the Rec as off-spinning all-rounder Bertus Loots has switched to the Rec from Dartington & Totnes.

“He is lad we've been after for some time- he's a fantastic competitor and will only strengthen us,” said skipper Justin Yau;

“He adds a wealth of experience in the middle order and will offer another option with the ball.

“We're very excited to have him and he is relishing the challenge of testing himself against the best.”
