MAWGAN Penrice hit his first Devon League century to help Abbotskerswell on the way to a 19-run win over Braunton.
Penrice, formerly with Torquay before switching to Two Mile Oak, made 105 not out in an Abbots’ total of 219 for four.
Along the way he was involved in stands of 92 with Charlie Garrett (42), and 81 with Charlie Mitchell (34).
Braunton found wickets hard to come by. Jon Baglow with two for 27 was the pick of the bowlers
Braunton got in a strong position on the chase with Dave Cresswell (36) and Rob Collier (36) supporting the work done by Mark Mitchell.
Braunton got down to a target of 70 to win off 14 overs with four wickets intact and Mitchell (65) still there.
Losing Mitchell derailed the chase – and three run-outs didn’t help! Braunton finished on 200 all out.
Jon Baglow, the Braunton captain, felt it was a winnable game that got away from his side.
“Needing 38 off eight with three wickets left and Mitch still batting, we should have won,” said Baglow.
“Our top three scorers were run-out due to poor running or calls and that cost us.”
