In the Long Room at Lord’s with England captain Alastair CookPUPILS from St Peter's Prep School and Exmouth Community College had a day out they won't forget in a hurry a Lord's.
The 14-strong group went to watch the second day of England's game against New Zealand.
The group saw an exciting days play and got involved in numerous activities around the ground including Hawkeye bowling, speed tests, bowling machine batting and speed catching.
Pupils also caught up with Exmouth 1st Xi and Devon scorer Rachel Tozer, who was scoring the game for England.
The highlight of the day was a surprise invitation to the famous Long Room in the pavilion from England captain Alastair Cook.
Rob Newman, the Budleigh Salterton cricketer and former Devon player who ran the trip, explained how the invitation to visit the pavilion came about.
Alastair Cook visited St Peter's last term to host a masterclass for the cricketers at the school," said Newman.
"We walked past the pavilion at the end of the day's play and saw the 12th man there, so we asked if he could let Alastair know we were still around.
"The lady who looks after the pavilion found us 10 minutes later and invited us in, where Alastair was waiting.
"The pupils were thrilled - as were the staff."
Ian Taylor, who was in charge of the Exmouth Community College contingent, said meeting Cook was the icing on the cake of a great day.
The students had no idea they were going to be invited into the pavilion to meet Alastair.
"The excitement commenced when the England captain greeted both schools, posed for pictures and signed autographs.
"This was a very rare opportunity considering there is a 20-year waiting list to join the MCC and enter the pavilion at Lord's."
