England have called uncapped Somerset all-rounder Craig Overton into the squad for the Royal London one-day series as cover for the injured Chris Jordan.
Jordan, whose figures of one for 97 against New Zealand on Friday were the second worst by an England player in one-day history, has a side injury and will be assessed before the third match on Sunday.
“Craig Overton has been called up as cover while we wait for an update on Chris Jordan’s side injury,” read a tweet from @englandcricket.
The 21-year-old Overton has played 15 List A matches for Somerset, averaging 54.20 with the ball and 10.54 with the bat.
The Royal London series is tied at 1-1 with England and New Zealand facing each other at the Rose Bowl tomorrow (Sunday).
North Devon favourite Overton is the second former Devon youth player to get called up by England this year.
Plympton’s Lewis Gregory – a former England U19 captain also on the staff at Somerset – was in the squad when England played Ireland in Dublin last month.
Gregory didn’t make the starting XI for the game, which was called off after 18 overs due to rain.
