Pyle on move to Exmouth

SHOBROOKE Park batsman Dan Pyle is on his way to Premier side Exmouth after an outstanding first half of the season for club and county.

Pyle, who is 17, is averaging more than 70 for Devon U17s and has a hefty average of 157 in the Tolchards Devon League B Division with Shobrooke Park.

Pyle fits games for Shobrooke in around his cricket in the 1st XI at Blundell’s School, Tiverton, for whom he has passed 50 four times in six knocks this season.

Richard Baggs, the Exmouth skipper, said Pyle (pictured) is a useful acquisition for the club.

“He us a prolific run scorer and we are delighted he has chosen to join us,” said Baggs.

“If you are a batsman there are few places better to play than Exmouth and he will get every chance to showcase his talents.

“My first instinct is to ask Dan to open and I will drop down the order.

“We have to accept a few of us are not getting any younger and we need to look to the future.

“Dan is just the sort of exciting, young player we need at the club.

“I have played some cricket for the MCC with Dan’s dad Richard and have promised we will look after him.’

Exmouth keeper-batter Sandy Allen knows how good Pyle is as he coaches him in the Devon U17 side.

Richard Pyle, Dan’s father, said now was the right time for his son to move on.

“Dan Wolf and Harvey Sargent, who are U17 team-mates of Dan’s. are playing Premier cricket and doing pretty well,” said dad, a former Shobrooke captain still scoring runs in the 1st XI.

“After seeing Dan stroke 70-odd against Somerset U17s at Taunton recently, it made me think now is the time for him to step up.

“Shobrooke will be sad to see him go, but he is ready for the Premier Division.

“And as we are trundling on nicely in the B Division, we won’t miss him too much.”
