Wessels flies home following death in family

LEWDOWN are going to be without South African all-rounder Johan Wessels for a while as he has been forced to return home.

Wessels has suffered a death in the family and has asked for leave of absence.

“Myself and the club wish him well at this time,” said Lewdown skipper Harry Geering.

Left-arm seamer Ben Williams is home from university and comes straight back into the side.

Otherwise, Lewdown are unchanged

Tavistock have made a couple of changes as Tim Pope is not available and Lee Baker is out injured.

Aaron Churchill is available and new signing David Ball will play.

Ball’s last club was Lewdown and Geering is puzzled why Ball has gone.

“Looking from the outside in you'd imagine there must have been a huge fall out for him to go now, but there wasn't,” said Geering. “Very weird.”

HATHERLEIGH go to Barton looking to bounce back from their defeat at Brixham.

Skipper Mark Lake, who leads an unchanged side, knows Barton will be feeling the same after they lost narrowly to Sandford.

“Barton are a good solid side who can cause damage with bat and ball,” said Lake.

“We know we will need to work hard to get a win, but if we put the hard yards in I'm sure we will go close to a positive result.”

BUDLEIGH double-up this weekend with a home game against Sandford on Saturday and Plymstock away in the Booker Wholesale Devon Cup on Sunday.

“We are unchanged from last week's win over Bideford and also the same XI on Sunday too, which is a good effort considering we are a young side and it is Fathers’ Day,” said skipper Lloyd White.

BRADNINCH go to Cornwood on Saturday then return to Kensham Park on Sunday to face Paignton in the Booker Wholesale Devon Cup.
