SIDMOUTH kept a firm grip on the Booker Wholesale Devon Cup by inflicting a 59-run defeat on Exmouth in the first round.
Jake Fawcett found some form after a quiet run in the league with a top score of 90 offf 87 balls as Sidmouth reached a 40-over total of 230 for four.
Matt Cooke (20) and Josh Bess helped Fawcett take Sidmouth to 122 for three, then Anthony Griffiths (51) and Fawcett racked up another 103 for the fourth wicket. Griffiths got out in the final over to Alvin Pollard.
Exmouth were in with a shout at 102 for two at the 22-over mark with, then lost Gary Chappell, Jon Evennett and top scorer Richard Baggs (54) for 14 runs added.
Marquis Clarke (37no) and Finlay Marks (14) put on 39, but Exmouth were slipping behind the clock and needed seven an over to win with 10 to go.
Marks fell at 155 for six and the rest of the batting imploded.
There were two wickets each for Liam Lewis (2-39) and Will Murray, who also ran out Jack England, as Exmouth subsided to 171 all out.
BARTON sprung a mini-shock in the Booker Wholesale Devon Cup by beating Premier side Plympton by 68 runs.
Steve Lewis top scored with 66 as Barton made 232 all out in the last of their 40 overs.
Tom Drake followed his half-century against Hatherleigh in the league the day before with 60.
The stand of 114 between Lewis and Drake formed the backbone of the Barton innings.
Adrian Hewings (32) and Aqeel Ahmed (28) reprised the double act they have been perfecting this season by knocking up another 56 in less than five overs.
Hewings had 32 off 23 balls and Aqeel 28 off 13 with two sixes and three fours.
Tom Johnson took four for 17. Dom Mulberry also took four, but at a cost of 62 runs.
Plympton were in with a chance as long as David Ackford (31), Duncan Hefford (40) and Owen Gannon (28) were pushing the score along.
Ackford’s demise to man of the match Drake at 117 for four, was the beginning of the end for Plympton. Gannon kept going until he was seventh out at 147.
It didn’t take long for Drake (3-27), Kyle Lardner (2-8) and Stuart Bowker (2-44) to remove the rest.
BUDLEIGH Salterton breezed into the last eight of the Booker Wholesale Devon Cup with a comfortable seven-wicket win over Plymstock.
James Nichols (58) and Seb Jordan (39) were the main Plymstock run getters in a tally of 145 for nine. Josh Hocken chipped in with 20.
Sid Ferreday’s two for 16 off six knocked out the early order. Skipper Lloyd White nipped out Nicholls and went on to take three for 28,
The run chase was a routine assignment completed with 10 overs to spare.
White (40) and Ben Phillips (56no) made a big hole in the target.
When White went to George Barnicott (2-32), Cephas Zhuwao (13) and Sam Richardson (27no) tied up the loose ends.
CHUDLEIGH produced one of the result of the round in the Booker Wholesale Devon KO Cup when they hammered Brixham by nine wickets.
Brixham travelled without their captaincy duo of Andy Pugh and Gary Spencer, but were otherwise not far off full strength.
Opener Tim Robinson hit the top score of 83 not out in Brixham’s tally of 183 for seven.
Along the way there were stands of 44 with Stuart Edgar (26), 30 with Matt McGillivray (12) and 45 with acting captain Mark Orchard (45),
Tight spells from Faisel Khaliq (2-31), 2nd XI captain Matt Ball (0-31) and Rob Clarke (2-23) helped keep the lid on Brixham.
Chudleigh raced to victory inside 29 overs on the back of a 176-run opening stand between skipper Ed Foreman (89no) and Mark Solway (65).
Solway was dismissed with just eight runs needed.
BOVEY Tracey were waved through into the quarter-finals by Torquay, who were unable to raise a side.
Cornwood have been awarded the tie against Exeter, who were under the impression they would be allowed to rearrange the game as they had three players on Devon duty against Cornwall.
Dom Bess, Zak Bess and Ben Green were the players away with Devon.
Paignton pulled out of their game against Bradninch due to team-raising problems.
