DEVON’s veteran cricketers are doing their bit to develop young cricketers in Sri Lanka during a two-week tour of the country.
A 40-strong party of players, wives and supporters flew out to Sri Lanka on Thursday on the latest Devon Seniors’ tour.
Devon Seniors runs four sides – two over-50s’ and two over-60s’ teams – and all of them are represented on the tour.
The club last toured Sri Lanka in 2007 and saw first hand the shortage of cricket gear for youngsters starting out in the game.
Sri Lankan Test player Lasith Malinga is chairman of a charity that helps youngsters get a start in the game.
The charity needs kit, which is where Devon Seniors have been able to help.
Over-60s’ player Stuart Munday is a committee member of the Lord’s Taverners, a charity that aims to promote cricket at every opportunity.
Munday obtained a kit bag full of gear from the Taverners, which is going out to Sri Lanka with the tourists.
