OTTERY St Mary skipper Lewis Townsend is determined there won’t be a promotion party until the title is in the bag
Ottery took a huge stride towards winning the C Divison East title with a crushing nine-wicket win over Alphington last Saturday.
Alphington, whose play-off hopes have evaporated in recent weeks, were skittled out for 62.
Jody Clements spun through the Alphington batting to take seven wickets for nine runs. He was on a hat-trick twice but couldn’t join up the dots in the scorebook.
Billy Rudolph’s 30 not out had the game done and dusted in no time at all. It was over so early, the teams ate tea after the match!
With two games to go – Feniton this Saturday and Seaton to finish – Ottery are 32 points clear of Uplyme at the top of a division with only one promotion place.
Eight points will do it, but Townsend isn’t assuming anything.
“We are not there yet and still have two difficult games to play,” said Townsend.
“Fention is a derby game for us and I am sure they would like to put on over on us.
“Seaton are one of those sides who can be a bit up and down. But when they are up they are as good as most in this division.”
Ottery beat Alphington without opener Dan Flower and Billy Reed, who should be back against Feniton.
Matt Reed and batter Jack Pritchard are missing due to holidays.

OZ Besley says a lack of pressure on Clyst Hydon was the reason they were able to defend a low score against Uplyme & Lyme Regis on Saturday.

Clyst were all out for 127, before Dhanuja Nandana took three for 19 and James Billington took five for 23 to skittle Uplyme for 83.

Skipper Besley said: "We thought 150 or 160 might have been reasonable, so we were below par but we struck quite early when bowling and fielded absolutely superbly; it was our best fielding display this year.

"We've got nothing to play for now whereas Uplyme still do. The pressure was on them whereas we could just go out and enjoy ourselves."
