EXETER are definitely out of relegation danger now after beating Plympton by five wickets.
There was nothing on the game for Plympton as they were already down going into it.
Exeter needed a win to ensure they didn’t get caught up in any late dramas of their own, although Heathcoat’s win over Paignton eliminated the last threat to their Premier status.
Alex Carr top scored for Plympton with 47 in a total of 166 all out on the County Ground.
Tom Johnson made 46 of the first 89 on the board, then Carr, Matt Gregory (22) and Jamie Lee (15) enabled the bottom half of the order to put on 77.
Pick of the bowlers for Exeter with three for 30 was George Greenway – who reduced Plympton to 14 for three in the first six over.
Spinners Dom Bess and Ben Abrahams picked up a couple of wickets each.
Plympton got a dream start when Devon all-rounder Zak Bess was dismissed third ball by Ryan Skinner. That was as good as it got.
Rob Holman (38) and Somerset’s Alex Barrow (55) nudged the score up to 98 before Todd Rossouw broke the stand.
Barrow went first, followed four runs later by Holman to Craig Donohue.
Home captain Miles Lenygon (38no) and Tom Lammonby (25) got the scores level in a stand of 64.
Although Johnson took out Lammonby and Dom Bess in successive deliveries, Luchiano Machado dealt with the hat-trick ball safely and nudged the next one for the winning single.
Skipper Lenygon said two players mastered the conditions better than anyone to set up the win.
“George Greenway’s opening spell was very good ,” said Lenygon. “And on damp pitch due to the weather Barrow made a potentially tricky chase look easy.”
