Davies wins league's top award for service

BIDEFORD’S Andy Davies has entered the Devon Cricket League Hall of Fame after receiving one of the competition’s top awards.

Davies was presented with the Services to the Devon Cricket League award at the competition’s annual meeting in Exeter. League chairman Stuart Munday (right) made the presentation.

Davies has been associated with the Westward Ho! club for more than 50 years as player and administrator.

Davies played 1st XI cricket for Bideford between 1958-2006, scoring 12,545 runs from 811 trips to the crease.

He skippered the 1st XI, the 2nd XI and both Sunday XIs before hanging up his bat for good.

Davies has been club treasurer, colts organiser, Chance to Shine manager and grounds assistant.

Away from Westward Ho! his cricket jobs have included being treasurer of North Devon Coaches Association.  treasurer of the North Devon Colts League and a member of the North Devon Umpires and Scorers Association.

Davies was nominated for a ECB OSCA – a volunteering award – in 2006.

There were two awards for neighbours North Devon CC: club of the year and captain of the season, which went to Barney Huxtable.
