TON-up Thommo will skipper the Lions against Gloucestershire Academy in the final Devon development game of the season.
Torquay batsman Thompson was busy scoring a century for Devon’s senior side against Cheshire at Sidmouth on Sunday while the Lions were losing to South African tourists Futura Sports at Brixham.
The last time Devon left Thompson in charge of the Lions he skippered them to victory over the Worcestershire Academy in Wolverhampton.,
So it is no real surprise that Thompson has been handed control for Sunday’s game against Gloucestershire at Cornwood (noon).
Matt Golding, another regular in the senior side, is also drafted in by the Lions.
In, too, are Bovey Tracey’s in-form opener Sam Wyatt-Haines and Bradninch’s Dan Hardy, who gets a second chance to show what he can do in the early order.
Hardy missed out against Future Sports – he was in and out for two – but is highly rated by his club side and interests Devon as an option for next season.
The senior side have struggled for runs in the early order all season and the selectors are interested in anyone who can bring an improvement with them.
