BIDEFORD have the C Division title safely in the bag after routing Clyst St George by 130 runs.
Chasers Axminster were in with a nominal chance of catching Bideford, although with 29 points to make up in two games it was never really on.
Jodi Gilmore hit a season’s best 166 for Bideford as they totted up 311 for four.
Dan Barratt (25) and skipper James Ford (66) gave Bideford a 44-run start then Gilmore really started lashing it around.
Gilmore only faced 101 balls and was brutal on anything wayward, smashing 24 fours and five sixes.
Along the way Gilmore shared in stands of 140 with Ford, 41 with Al Savage (8) and 72 with Matt Allin (32).
Dan Takle (1-90) and John Meredith (2-83) took the brunt of the punishment, although Meredith did get Gilmour out in the penultimate over.
Clyst were all out for 181 in reply and had Matt Cook to thank for getting as far as they did.
Cook went in at first wicket down after opener Al Welsh was dismissed in the second over by Fred King.
Chris Ferro (38) and Cook put on 62 for the next wicket, but once Alex Crisp trapped Ferro lbw it was downhill all the way.
Cook kept going while wickets fell at the other end before he was last man out to Josh Atkinson (2-23).
Clyst aren’t down yet, but the miracle of the five loaves and three fishes will pale into insignificance if they can wriggle off the relegation hook now.
Skipper Meredith’s side have to get in front of Plymouth CS&R to stave off the drop – and they are 15 points ahead.
With impeccable timing the two sides meet at Bohea Field this Saturday, where Civil will target the seven points they need to stay up.
AXMINSTER head for Dartington & Totnes on Saturday safe in the knowledge they cannot be caught for second place after beating Chagford by seven wickets.
Other than Jon Wright (35) and Derek Lammonby (21) none of the Chagford batters hung around a Rob Prior (3-13) and Nick Taylor (2-25) helped bowl them out for 145.
Axminster lost a couple of wickets early on – Johnny Hurford (22) among them – but a century stand between Paul Miller (30no) and Matt Pile (55no) put Axminster on course for an easy victory.
Chagford conclude a disappointing season with a home match against champions Bideford.
OTTERY look destined to finish fifth in the table after overcoming Plymouth Civil Service by 40 runs.
It’s relegated Yelverton at home in the final round of fixtures for Ottery, who will be disappointed not to add to the Moorlanders’ tally of 12 defeats.
However, improving on their current fifth place in the table depends on Kingsbridge slipping up badly away to Ipplepen.
Ottery eased to 246 for six on the back of an unbroken stand of 142 between Sam Lynch (57no) and Alex Thurgate.
Civil’s second-wicket pair Ben Wilkinson (39) and Rob Gaylard (41) made an 86-run dent in the target before they were parted.
Zac Johns (3-45), Jody Clements (2-27) and David Richardson (2-39) slowed Civil in the second half and they closed well adrift in 206 for eight.
DARTINGTON & Totnes ensured there will be no alarm bells against Axminster on the final day of the league season thanks to a 98-run win in the derby date at Kingsbridge.
It was a day to forget for Kingsbridge, who were 155 for three chasing 267 to win, James Shepherd (66) and Angus Watson (40) among the runs, then collapsed to 168 all out.
The bowlers who did the damage were Bertus Loots (3-29) and Ryan Stevenson (4-19).
Earlier, D&T’s strength in depth showed as they made 266 for five – as did Kings inability to bowl straight!
For the D&T total was helped along by 39 wides.
Jono Colgate (39no) and James Howrihane (46no) put on 78 unbroken for the sixth wicket after Stevenson (37), Loots (31) and Angus Wilson (47) had already tucked in.
Only Bhanu deSilva (3-33) tasted bowling success for Kingsbridge.
Ipplepen – at home to Kingsbridge this Saturday – beat Yelverton by 67 runs to send the Moorlanders straight back down to the D Division.
There were runs all round for Pens led by Sam Wakeham (48) and Rachit Lakhmani (46) in a total of 257 for six declared.
Joe Abbott (34no) and Tom Dyer (35) chipped in.
Yelverton were 190 for eight when the overs ran out – Ramesh Pererra making a top score of 55.
There were four wickets for Abbott and two for one mopping up at the end for Steve Bowden.
