D Division East: Honiton lift title

D Division East

HONITON II were duly crowned champions of the D Division East after landing a nerve-jangling final day win at home to Exmouth III.

The visitors, and in particular young Ollie Dawe, made Andrew Lapping’s side fight all the way to the winning line.

Pete Beighton hit 66 and Tom Strawbridge chipped in with 26 as Honiton were bowled out for 190 with Pete Lee taking 3-25.

Dawe then hit a superb century but lost his wicket the delivery after he brought up his ton, which ended any hopes of the visitors landing a surprise win.

Andy Brinsford (3-32) and Harry Wright (2-12) combined to see off the plucky visitors, who lost their final wicket at 176.

Ollie Borgeat hit seven fours in an unbeaten 30 and Dan Norman chipped in with 25 as Uplyme and Lyme Regis II ended their season on a winning note, beating one time table topping Whimple II by five wickets.

Keith Brown top scored for Whimple with 24 but Mike Holding (3-18) and Paul Crompton (3-19) combined to bundle the visitors out for 95, passed for the loss of just five wickets, two of which fell to visiting skipper Barry Wright (2-38).
