B Division 2nd XI: Heathcoat up as champs
B DIVISION 2nd XI

HEATHCOAT are on their way to the A Division next season after beating Alphington by six wickets to clinch promotion as champions.

Darron Drew (4-18) and Pete Moisan (3-27) put the skids under the Alphas, who were all out for 87 with Alan Davey (26) having the best of a sorry set of scores.

Steve Harding (22) and Justin Williams (25no) negotiated a lively spell from Stephen Hathaway (3-49) to put Heathcoat 40 points clear of second placed Stoke Gabriel, who can’t win enough games to snatch top spot now.

Bideford’s last chance of making the top two in the B Division 2nd XI competition went west when they were crushed by 78 runs at Brixham – former Devon batsman Andy Pugh hitting his second successive century for the home side.

Relegated Shobrooke Park put the block on against second-placed Stoke Gabriel, who are just about promoted now they are 27 points ahead of third-placed Bideford with two games to go.

Ashley Hill (60, Seb Ansley (52no) and Jack Tolley (40) got the bulk of the runs in Stoke’s 46-over total of 203 for five. Mark Wheeler picked up three for 45.

Wheeler and Alex Reddick had a brace of 26s as Shobrooke wandered to 112 for eight. Ansley and U17 Rob Harris bagged two wickets each.

Skipper Shaun Taylor was Kingsbridge’s man of the match as they condemned Yelverton to relegation by handing out an eight-wicket hiding at the Butts.

Taylor (4-17) and Tony Treeby (2-37) bundled Yelverton out for 121 – super veteran Gerry Keen making 36.

Taylor (56no) and U15 Elliot Bradbury (23no) put on 69 unbroken to win the game after James Ellis (27) went at 52 for two.

South Devon took the derby spoils in the clash with Abbotskerswell at Marsh Road in a game limited to 31 overs each.

Gary Day made 38 and Alex Birt 22 in a modest Abbots’ tally of 124 for eight.

Wickets fell at 19, 43, 47 and 95 as George Burningham (50no), assisted by Kevin Murphy (29) and Matt Blackmore (20) cruised to a six-wicket win.

Former South Devon 2nd XI captain Dave Amery took two for 28 against his old club.
