Abbots’ Paul Mitchell, with Steve Dommett of Devon Garden Machinery who supplied the new equipment
ABBOTSKERSWELL ought to be the smartest ground around next season thanks to a grant of almost £20,000 from Viridor.
The money from the waste management company’s charitable arm has been spent on new ground-keeping equipment.
A new roller, compact tractor and verti-cutter were acquired by the club to replace ageing equipment.
Paul Mitchell, the groundsman at Two Mile Oak, said: “The club is indebted to Viridor Credits for the assistance provided both financially and through help with the application process.
“The purchase of this equipment will ensure the volunteer workforce at the club has the best and most reliable kit at hand.
“As a club we try to provide the best of everything to encourage players, young and not so young, to enjoy the game.
“These pieces of equipment will go a long way in helping us continue to improve our pitches.”
It’s been a good year for Abbots on the funding front as they secured a number of improvement grants.
The club has received grants from Abbfest, the Heavitree Brewery Charitable Trust, the Tony Coles Charitable Trust, the ECB and the local district councillors’ fund.
Funding from those sources have gone towards a new water removal machine, colts’ equipment and the proposed purchase of a new bowling machine.
The 2013 season draws to a close next Wednesday (September 18) with the rearranged Arul Suppiah benefit game against the stars from Somerset CCC (3.30pm).
