B Division - Plymstock ring changes

PLYMSTOCK will be without Dave Orchard, Scott Mansfield and Danny Dyer for their trip to Thorverton.

Back comes George Barnicott and two young batters, Mike Blackmore and josh Sumner.

Orchard and Mansfield return next week as skipper James Nichols starts thinking about building on the win over Stoke Gabriel last week and climbing up the table.

“It's three games until the half-way point and a couple of wins would put us in a decent position to push on in the second half,” said Nichols.

“Last week gave us the boost we needed at the right time and we will be looking to push on.

“The division is tight and everybody is beating everybody from week to week, so nothing can be taken for granted and the form book goes out the window.

“I'm still looking to get more out of my guys especially the batting, and when that clicks we look like a complete side.”

On Thorverton he added: “They have done well so far and look like a strong all-round side so we will have to perform as well if not better than last week.”

Will Denford and James Maxwell return for Thorverton, whose skipper Graham White regards Plymstock as an unknown quantity.

“Not sure what to expect from Plymstock as they have has some mixed results, but would be surprised if they weren't competitive,” said White.

Leaders Tavistock welcome back Aaron Churchil after a one-match suspension for the game against bottom side Stoke Gabriel.

Churchill was reported for bowling three high full-tosses against Bideford last month, a crime against cricket that carries an automatic league ban.

“Even worse we have had two points deducted,” said skipper Shaun Daymond.

Shaun Cleave will keep wicket as Dave Manning remains unavailable and Devon’s Rhys Davies isn’t around to fill in this week.

Stoke have only won once this season, but Daymond is a little wary of them.

“The test for us is keeping up the levels we have set ourselves in these first few games. You can't take anyone for granted in this league,” he said.

Stoke Gabriel have a bit more depth in their batting as JimmyAttwood is back from injury and Rob Baker makes an appearance

Skipper Mark Gilmour is hoping to cause an upset.

“Tavistock come as favourites, but one person can change a game,” said Gilmour.

“Something special again from Mark Newman or Seb Ansley with the bat or myself and Kris Davis with the ball could do it.”

Axminster, away to Ivybridge, welcome back batter Paul Miller after injury, but lose Gary Larcombe who is at a wedding.

After wins over Bideford and Braunton, skipper Tristan Wakeley is keen for Axminster to take their winning form into the game.

He added: “This week’s weather will aid batting, but it's still up to us as a team to get the runs, either setting or chasing.

“Don't know too much about Ivybridge, but It doesn't matter who is put in front of us.

“We always look to play our own game and come away with a positive result.”

Barnstaple & Pilton captain Steve Moore is hoping to turn the formbook upside down in the derby clash with Bideford.

Third-placed Bideford are 36 points ahead of second-bottom B&P and ought to be favourites.

Moore knows B&P haven’t played to their best yet, but retains faith in his side to sort it out.

“We do need to improve in all aspects of our game as we are in a relegation battle,” said Moore.

“I believe in my players and that we can turn around this poor start.

“In difficult situations you just need to work hard and keep your self-belief.

“We have a difficult game this week against a good Bideford side, but we go there looking to cause a upset.”

Tom Popham and paul schiller are missing but in come James Tapp, Shaun Cole and Jack Moore for his 1st XI debut.

Matt Allin returns after injury for Bideford and replaces James Corry but wont keep wicket.

“I am looking forward to two home derby games which will be competitive as they are must-win games to keep in touch with top two,” said Bideford captain James Ford, whose side play Bruanton next Saturday.
