Daymond right to be wary of Stoke

IT’S top against bottom at the Ring where leaders Tavistock take on bottom side Stoke Gabriel.

Stoke are resigned to relegation, however Tavvy are by no means sure of going up yet as Bideford and Thorverton are in hot pursuit. One of them will miss out.

And Stoke can’t be written off as they have beaten Shobroooke Park and Plymstock in their last two outings.

“Stoke have had some good results over the last few weeks so we won't take them easy,” said Tavvy skipper Shaun Daymond.

“If we play as we have this season at home, we should get some decent points.

“It's been constant pressure being at the top but we would be silly to let it slip now.

“Need to make sure we perform the same this Saturday and get big points. If results go our way we would almost be there.”

Seamer James McGahey and opener Dom Scaglioni come in.

Bideford go to Barnstaple, who are waging what looks like a desperate fight against relegation.

Bideford skipper wishes Barnstaple no harm, but won’t be going easy on them either.

“I don’t get any pleasure seeing Barnstaple in a relegation spot, but we will do all we can to get what could a vital result,” said Ford.

Dan Barratt replaces Mat Shepard in the middle order in an otherwise unchanged team.

Plymstock had hoped go straight back up this season after relegation, but the last chance of that went out of the window with defeat by Stoke Gabriel last Saturday.

However, James Nichols’ men can still have a say in who does go up as they play Thorverton this week.

“They are still pushing to go up and it's only fair to other teams that we prep properly and put in 100 per cent,” said Nichols.

“If my guys don't give their all they will get a firm boot up the rear.

“We had a great game at their place, which we won, and I'm hoping for another good game at our place.

“The only change from last week is mike Blackmore comes back after his holiday to replace Seb Jordan ,who is out for the rest of the season before his back his neck his shoulders and his knees fall out.

“We can't go up and can't go down but still have a lot to play for as a team building for next season.”

Elsewhere, Shobrooke Park are at home to Braunton and Axminster go to Ivybridge.
