Braunton batters show application

BRAUNTON got back to business after their opening day defeat by Ipplepen when they won by eight wickets at Plymstock.

Jack Horton top scored with 113 in Plymstock’s all-out total of 113. Next best was Jason Williams on 13.

Matt Smith took five Plymstock wickets for 21 runs and Mark Johnson three for 18.

Callum Mitchell’s 30 got Braunton up and running, then Alfie Huxtable (45no) took care of the rest.

It was all done and dusted inside 24 overs for Braunton.

“After we dropped a catch first ball of the day, I had a feeling of here we go again,” said Braunton skipper Jon Baglow.

“We just used four seamers and we bowled straight and made it tough for the batsman, asking a lot of questions.

“We were a bit light in our batting so to bowl them out was a real bonus.

“Alfie Huxtable batted through very sensibly, waiting for a bad ball and putting it away.

“Callum Mitchell went in at four and batted well. It was good to see the two kids put on 60-odd in good time to see us home.”

According to Plymstock’s captain for the day Horton, the team got what they deserved.

“We didn’t bat sensibly and too many of us threw out wickets away,” said Horton.

“Although the conditions were not great there were runs to be had if you built an innings,

“Braunton did that. We didn’t.”
