Cricket Umpires & Scorers Trust appeal

Appeal from Cricket Umpires & Scorers Trust

The Cricket Umpires & Scorers Trust has recently contacted members of the ECB Association of Cricket Officials to offer financial assistance in the current difficult climate. However, it has also asked for help to reach former members of the ECB ACO as well as the old Association of Cricket Umpires & Scorers. If you can help, please do!

 The full letter is below:

 Dear Colleague,

In 1985 the then Association of Cricket Umpires created a benevolent fund. Known as the ACU Trust, and funded by voluntary donations, the objective of the fund was to assist members and former members of the Association and their dependants in times of need with modest financial aid, usually for specific items of expenditure.

Over the years we have been able to help numerous members in times of trouble with various forms of assistance, for example: a replacement washing machine; purchase of an electric scooter; cost of extended travel to visit sick spouse in hospital; temporary loans; and many others.

The Trust has evolved and whilst it continues to be at the disposal of former members of the Association of Cricket Umpires & Scorers (ACU&S), as from June 2012 it also became available to members of the ECB Association of Cricket Officials.

In the current generally difficult financial climate, we are sure there will be members who might benefit from our help. More particularly, the recent flooding in many parts of the UK may well have caused difficulties for individuals in circumstances where the Trust might be able to assist. We are therefore extending this appeal to encourage ECB ACO members/former ACU&S members who feel they may be able to benefit from the help of the Trust to come forward.

We are particularly keen for our message to be conveyed to former members of ACU&S who may not currently be in direct communication through, for instance, the medium of the ACO newsletter. If you are in contact with such members - or indeed know of anyone (including yourself) who may be in need - we would invite you to remind them that the Trust is available and encourage them to come forward by approaching, in writing, to the address below or by e-mail. Applications are administered by a board of independent Trustees and all approaches are considered in complete confidence.

Please help the Trust to find those who most need our help by passing on this information. You may also wish to consider making a donation or bequest that will assist the Trust to continue its work.

We look forward to hearing from you or someone you know who is in need of financial support.
