Devon Cricket Board - C Division: South Devon gunned down by Haturusingha

CLYST Hydon’s Dhanuja Haturusingha was on top form as promotion-chasing South Devon were brought down to earth with a crash.
South Devon, second in the table and only beaten once this season before Saturday, were set 177 to win.
An eight-wicket haul for Haturusingha had the home side all out for 69.
Clyst were 73 for four at one stage – Richard Beaumont (2-33) and Neil Hancock (2-10) among the wickets – until Haturusingha got going.
The Sri Lankan all-rounder made 64 and with Clint Lewis (32) got Hydon up to 155 for eight when he was dismissed.
Jonny Martin (4-16) did some tidying up at the end.
South Devon nosedived to 26 for five in reply before Beaumont (28) delayed the inevitable for a while.
Haturusingha finished with eight for 11,
Clyst will hope to maintain the same winning form when they face Dartington & Totnes at home this Saturday.
ALPHINGTON’S new-found form faces it’s toughest test yet when they entertain leaders Ipplepen.
The Alphas have eased up the table to third on the back of a four-match winnng run.
Stuart Shaw’s side were the first to beat former leaders South Devon and the run also includes Chagford, Dartington & Totnes and kingsbridge last time out.
Seventy-seven points out of 88 available have taken Alphington from fourth from bottom to third from top.
Can they go any higher? You won’t catch Shaw saying it can’t be done.
“We know it's going to be tough to chase down the top two, but if we keep playing the cricket we have been playing for the past fours weeks till the end of the season we won't be far away,” said Shaw.
Kingsbridge, winless, rock bottom and probably one more defeat away from relegation, proved a tougher nut to crack than their league position suggested.
It looked like the same old story at first as Andy Wilson (4-58) was largely responsible for reducing Kingsbridge to 96 for five.
Matt Peach (80) and Ali Brown (93) hoofed the score along to 229 for six and when the over ran out the total was 283 for seven.
Alphington weren’t fazed by the total on what is a notoriously high-scoring ground due to its sloping terrain.
Dave Hayson (54) and Anthony Shepherd opened up with 106, Mike Shepherd (55) helped his brother add another 50 and with Tom Bath (21) and Paul James (39no) contributing, Alphington got home with four wickets in hand.
‘It would probably been 220 on any other ground, but it was still a great performance to chase them down,” said Shaw.
“Haysom and Anthony Shepard puting on more than 100 for the first wicket gave us a good start, then all of my top five batted extremely well.”
CHAGFORD cruised to a five-wicket win over Shaldon Optimists, whose early promise in the C Division quickly faded.
The last of Shaldon’s two wins this season was back on June 7 when they defeated Ottery St Mary by 13 runs to go third in the table behind South Devon.
Shaldon have not won since – that’s seven games been and gone since Ottery – and have slid down the table to three from bottom.
They still had to be beaten though and Chagford went about their business in a thoroughly workmanlike manner.
Jamie Day (30) top scored for Shaldon, but only Karl Blackburn (24) and Andrew Espley (24) contribued signficant scores in a total of 158 all out.
Will Lammonby – the 15-year-old son of skipper Del Lammonby – had impressive bowling figures of four for 23.
Paul Penberthy (35) and Divan Marais (34) steered Chagford in the right direction, leaving young Lammonby (34no) to wrap things up with another 15 year old, Craig Penberthy, not out at the other end.
Chagford visit South Devon this Saturday.
IPPLEPEN’S meeting with bottom side Plymouth Civil Service proved something of a non-event after the visitors arrived two players short.
A car accident was blamed for the non-arrival of two players – and things went from bad to worse afer that for Civil.
The nine who did make it were bowled out for 71 by Paul Thomas (3-10), Joe Abbott (2-31) and Caleb Gaylard (2-18).
Jack Lewis (28) and Matt Nicholls (25no) had the runs knocked off inside 1- overs.
Ipplepen can expect their visit to Alphington this Saturday to be a little tougher!
HAT-tricks change matches – as Ottery St Mary discovered against Dartington & Totnes.
Ottery appeared to have done the hard bit by limiting the South Hams side to 141 for eight.
Jack Marwick’s 38 was the best of an unremarkable set of D&T scores as they stuggled against Jody Clements (2-37) and Billy Rudolph (2-13).
Ryan Stevenson and Joe Hockings both made 30s for D&T.
Otter were skittled out for 101, largely by Stevenson, whose six for 17 included a hat-trick.
Stevenson has form for that sort of thing as it was his third in the league.
Clements made 27 and next best was Joe Birch.
Ottery’s fortunes should improve against Plymouth Civil Service this Saturday.
