Bradninch hand out hiding to Hydon

LATEST TABLES | WEEK ONE REPORT

BRADNINCH were 131-run winners in a one-sided local derby at Clyst Hydon in week two of the Island Cricket Exeter T20 league.

The visitors batted first and amassed 213-3 from 20 overs, openers Dan Hardy and Tim Piper both scoring half centuries before a bright and breezy 38no from Gary Chappell.

Only Clyst’s Will Moore (2-37) emerged with respectable bowling figures!

In reply Clyst’s wickets fell at regular intervals as an initially high required run rate quickly crept even higher – only Tom Pettitt (23no) was able to offer much resistance to Phil Chappell (3-12) and Luke Wrightson (3-14).

Exeter defeated Thorverton by 13 runs in a much closer affair at the County Ground.

The home side batted first and were indebted to Billy Searle (48) and Rob Holman’s (33) opening partnership in a final total of 122 for six.

Jake Choules was the pick of the Thorverton bowling with 3-24. Thors got off to a good start through Paul Fielder (33), but lost wickets steadily at the other end until Jake Crouch’s 20 in the middle order.

Joe Barrs (3-21) and George Greenway (3-14) ensured Exeter had enough in the bank when the visitors’ overs ran out.

Division Two saw the cross-city derby between Topsham St. James and Countess Wear, which visiting Wear won at a stroll.

Topsham were bowled out for 78 by Lawrence Marsh (4-23), with only Nick Crew (21) with an individual score of any note.

Countess Wear had seven overs and seven wickets in hand as they chased Topsham down, despite a good opening spell from Ross Treleaven (3-12). Peter Darke’s 22 and Neil Pateman’s 20no were Wear’s top scores once Treleaven had finished his allocated overs.
