Bradninch take over at top in Evening League

WEEK FOUR TABLES

BRADNINCH top Division One of the Island Cricket Exeter T20 league – following the fourth round of matches – after a last-over victory at Shobrooke Park.

Shobrooke’s total of 123-7 was built around runs from Ryan Glass (25), Nick Prell (21) and Richard Pyle (21no).

Will Birley took 3-37 and Ryan Shrewsbury a very economical 3-17 for the visitors.

Bradninch’s opening partnership of Dan Hardy (48) and Gian Botha (49) broke the back of the chase, as Bradninch won without losing a further wicket, but Shobrooke’s Jason Barnes (2-20) ensure they had just four balls to spare.

Clyst Hydon beat previous leaders Exeter by 102 runs in a high scoring encounter.

Clyst posted an imposing 228-2 from their 20 overs, opener Ian Sutton batting through to make an unbeaten 89 and well supported by Rick Martin (48) and Dhanuja Haturusingha (42no).

Exeter’s Matt Hicks (34) got the visitors off to a brisk start on the chase, but after his dismissal Exeter lost their way, bowled out for 126 in the fourteenth over.

Will Greig (2-17) and James Billington (2-24) were the pick of the Clyst bowlers.

In Division Two, Clyst St George remain top following an eight-wicket victory over Alphington.

The Alphas batted first and were restricted to 101-9 thanks to a superb 5-25 from Clyst’s Julian Welland.

Clyst’s reply was anchored around Chris Ferro (45) with support from Nick Dubuisson (29no) as they cantered home with three overs to spare. Ferro is pictured left

Met Office were the other winners in Division Two with an 18- run win at Countess Wear.

The Weathermen batted first and made 124-8, with runs from Rami Yedidi (34) and Jon Petch (32).

Owen Smith took 4-11 for the home side.

Wear started well in reply with openers John Heaver and Pete Darke making 36 and 23 respectively, but a dramatic collapse saw five ducks from the next six batsmen as Yedidi (6-13) ripped through their middle order.

A rearguard by John Bendall (18) restored some respectability, but Wear were bowled out for 106.

WEEK THREE

THORVERTON’S victory over Shobrooke Park in the mid-Devon derby was the only match played in week three of Division One of the Island Cricket Exeter T20 league.

Thors batted first and posted 165-4 from their 20 overs, David Baldock top scoring with 55 and James Maxwell with 40no.

In reply Shobrooke started well with opener Nick Prell making 54, but he lacked support down the order against tidy bowling from Jack Stirling (2-15) & Jake Crouch (2-27) and the visitors had reached 125-7 when their overs ran out.

Bradninch’s game against Exeter fell victim to the weather, as did Alphington vs Exwick in Division Two.
