Express & Echo sports awards

Devon cricket recognised at local sports awards.

At the recent Express and Echo sports awards, cricket in Devon was a star of the show with shortlisted nominations in 8 of the 16 categories.    The inaugural awards recognised the achievements and contributions of everyone involved in all sports from Exeter and the surrounding areas whether amateur or professional and celebrated those who enrich theirs and the lives of others through sport.

The awards ceremony was held at Sandy Park last Thursday, where guest of honour to present the winners trophies was former middle distance runner Steve Cram, MBE.

Those recognised on the night include Devon County CC, Ottery St Mary CC, George Greenway of Exmouth CC and coach Trevor Griffin, who also recently picked up a national award for his coaching within the Chance to Shine project.

Matt Theedom,  Devon’s CDM said “This is truly fantastic; in an Olympic year to have cricket represented in so many categories shows how well run our sport  is at all levels across the county. We have so many unsung heroes that give up their time to improve the quality of cricket in Devon, to see some of them recognised at the Express & Echo awards is testament to everyone’s hard work”.

Keep an eye on the website for pictures from the night and comments from the winners and runners up.
