GIONNE Koopman’s third Premier ton of the season wasn’t enough to prevent Plymouth losing by four wickets to Exeter.
Koopman’s knock of exactly 100 formed the backbone of Plymouth’s total of 190 all out in the last of their 50 overs.
Exeter were only troubled briefly in the latter stages of the chase, but got home comfortably enough with three overs to spare.
Plymouth remain second in the table behind champs-elect Sidmouth and are under no real pressure for the runners-up slot as chases Bovey Tracey and Exmouth both lost.
Plymouth are on 225 points with Bovey on 219 and Exmouth on 216.
“We play Exmouth this Saturday are hopeful we can keep second place,” said Plymouth captain Matt Hooper.
Plymouth lost opener Ben Stein in the second over, but made steady progress to 67 for two when surviving opener James Toms was dismissed.
Koopman saw Jake Luffman come and go in a hurry to Adam Gribble (2-27) and with Joe Hagan Burt and Steve Luffman falling to Dom Bess found himself holding the innings together at 129 for five.
Rob Bennett (17) and Hal Kerton (11) kept an end intact while Koopman eased towards his ton.
Having reached three figures Koopman lost concentration momentarily and hit a Neil Prowse full-toss to Billy Searle in the deep.
Prowse (3-33) picked up cheap wickets at the end as Plymouth lost their last four for seven runs.
Bennett grabbed an early breakthrough to remove Exeter captain Miles Lenygon, but Alec Bosomworth and Sean Morris (31) kept the target coming down with a stand of 54.
The match-settled partnership was one of 82 between Bosomworth (57) and Prowse (48) that took Exeter to 150 for three.
Koopman (3-32) caused some alarm with three quick wickets and Hooper took another as Exeter slowed from 150 for two to 167 for six.
Will Steward (19no) and Bess (7) ensured there were no further mishaps en route.
Hooper described the result as ‘disappointing’ adding: “We batted poorly but they have a good bowling attack.
“Gionne showed his class with another faultless hundred. Unfortunately no one went with him.
“Exeter batted well and I couldn't fault the effort by our bowlers.”
