Devon v Essex

Essex won the toss and elected to bat. After a bright start, Essex were soon in trouble when Exeter University student Bryony Butcher was bowled by Emily Ward. The introduction of left arm spinner Lydia Harris by skipper Amara Carr soon had Essex struggling as they slipped from 43-2 to 80ao. Two smart catches behind by Carr helped Lydia Harris to a four wicket haul of 4-14 from her 8 overs. Aylish Cranstone got in the act late on claiming 3-7 from 4 overs.

Devon's openers Carr and Cranstone wasted little time in knocking off the required 81 runs in less than 14 overs, Carrunbeaten on 37 and Cranstone on 28.

MCC v Devon

Once again Devon were asked to field. A solid start from MCC saw openers Reynolds and Watson add 72 for the opening wicket before Watson was bowled attempting to pull a ball far too full and losing her middle stump to Rebecca Bertrand. Reynolds fell in the next over, caught behind by Carr, again off the bowling of Bertrand. Somerset's Sophie Luff joined Georgia Hennessy as they added 47 from 12 overs before Devon were back in the game after two smart stumpings by Carr first saw the dismissal of Hennessy off the bowling of Cait O'Keefe and she was soon followed by the frustrated Luff, (10 from 69 balls) as she chased a wide delivery and was left stranded as Carr removed the bails. At 124-4 in the 32 over Devon had a real opportunity to keep the MCC down to a reasonable total. They were not helped by the sudden emergence of a sandstorm which literally blew some of the bowlers off their feet! That said Cordelia Griffiths and Marie Kelly took full advantage of the situation as they added a further 72 runs from the last 8 overs as they closed on 196-4. Rebecca Bertrand 2-24, Cait O'Keefe 1-28 and Lydia Harris 0-28, all from their allotted 8 overs were the pick of the bowlers.

Devon were never really in the races after the early loss of both openers Cranstone (1) and Carr (12) both lbw and they slipped from 23-1 to 83ao. Rebecca Bertrand made a patient 17 and Emily Ward (11no) were the only other players to make it to double figures in a below par batting performance. The girls can take solace from the fact that they did take four wickets and restricted MCC to under 200, in their other games they have had posted 250 plus for the loss of just one wicket in each game.

Devon v Durham

Devon had the early setback of losing skipper from the starting line up as she suffered a knee injury during the warm up and after trying a few hits after winning the toss she opted to stand down which left Rebecca Bertrand moving up to open with Aylish Cranstone. An oprning stand of 76 was broken when Cranstone was caught and bowled. A slight wobble followed after Alli Kelly and Frances Lausen both fell without scoring as Devon were reduced to 93-3 in the 18th over. Bertrand however anchored the innings well as she was joined in partnerships by both Cait O'Keefe (16) and Gemma Lancaster (17no) before falling for a well made 82 from 98 balls as Devo posted 201-6 from their 40 overs.

Two quick wickets for Lydia Harris had Durham on their heels at 6-2. Some determined resistance throughout kept Devon out in the field and it was Emily Ward who came back well at the latter end of the innings to claim 4 wickets that finally broke the Durham resistance. Harris finished with 3-13 for another excellent day with the ball. Katie Chisholm capped a fine individual fielding effort by also taking a wicket from her 4 overs for just 7 runs. Three stumpings for Alli Kelly rounded off a 52 run win for the Devon girls. They head into the weekend's final match with Wales in good spirits.
