Devon Over 60’s went through to the last eight of the National play-offs after an exciting win over Surrey at Sandford.
Devon were set a target of 183 and they passed the required total with two balls to spare.
Earlier Surrey batted first they said that they had researched Devon performances this season and noted that we were a ‘poor side batting second’. The Surrey innings was somewhat strange as only Keith Fuller with 101 off 92 balls the only scorer of note only one other batsman getting to double figures. Good bowling performances from Peter Rose 3- 29 (including two caught and bowled dismissals) and David Amery cleaning up the tail and the wicket of Fuller with 4-37.
The Devon reply suffered early set backs firstly with the injury to Bob Eames when he was on five, he was later to return with a runner and together with a superb knock by Nick Rogers of 68 off 106 balls. Eames was dismissed with 23 runs scored and the total on 111.
When Rogers went it was left to skipper Chris Theedom with an excellent knock of 22 off 30 balls to finish the job.
Devon are drawn at home in the quarter finals to be played against Essex again at Sandford on Tuesday 2nd September.
