WEST DEVON PALLADIUM YOUTH CRICKET LEAGUE
UNDER-11

PLYMPTON St Mary continued their match toward the Under-11 B Division title after claiming the victory over Plymouth Marjon.

In a busy week in the division there was no less then five games completed.

It was a sunny evening at Harewood Park and visitors Marjon won the toss and elected to bowl.

The Plympton batsmen got off to a steady start.

The second pairing of Jake Agnew (17 not out) and Lewis Clarke (7 not out) added 33 runs with both batsmen showing how to run well between the wickets.

This set the Plympton innings in good stead and with Owen Grimes adding an unbeaten 15 in the fourth pair, Plympton finished with a fine total of 287.

Marjon's Alex Cottam bowled efficiently taking one wicket for seven runs and Stanley Langmead was Marjon's fielder of the day, chasing down and stopping some big hits from the Plympton batters.

In reply the shining Marjon innings came from Stanley Langmead who hit two boundaries in his total of 11. Plympton bowlers shared the wickets through Jake Agnew, Millie Rowsell and most impressively Lewis Clarke, who was also the Plympton fielder of the day with a couple of run-outs.

Marjon finished on 222 losing by 65 runs.

Yealmpton welcomed Cornwood and won the toss and batted first. James Bree and Archie Garstang started slowly against some tight bowling from Ben Abbott and Jacob Newton.

Newton ran out Garstang with a direct throw before Yealmpton recovered to 211. Matthew Woodlock and Harry Stone added 18. Tom Woodlock kept the scoreboard ticking over scoring 10 runs and Yealmpton finished on 243.

Standing out with the ball for Cornwood was Ben Abbott.

In reply Cornwood started slowly with Ben Cole and Adam Sams making sure they did not throw their wickets away adding 17 in their four overs.

This brought Jacob Newton and Lewis McCleod to the wicket and they kept the fielders on their toes by taking some quick singles, adding 21 before Harry Harris and Ben Abbott contributed 14.

With the last pair at the crease the game was finely poised with both teams in with a shout of claiming the victory. In the end it was the Cornwood batters who held their nerve eventually winning the game by 22 runs after finishing on 265.

At The Ring in Tavistock, Ivybridge Eagles kept up their own ambitions of claiming the league title after a 17-run victory.

Tavistock made a blistering start with Billy Fletcher (19) and Isaac Staig (11) crashing boundaries through the leg side.

Once they disappeared however so too did Tavistock's resistance with Jacob Kopparambil taking two wickets.

Carter Davis went on to score 11 but Ivybridge's bowling was extremely tight. Zach Dunn's first ever catch behind the stumps earned him the away side's fielder of the match award as Tavistock closed on 251.

In reply the most notable batting performance came from Dunn whose eight included a super cover drive boundary.

Fletcher bowled well but the rest of the Tavistock bowling attack failed to engage their radar and conceded a costly 77 extras and Ivybridge took full advantage winning by 17 runs and closing on 268.

Yelverton Mosquitoes claimed their fourth victory of the season with a convincing victory over neighbours Buckland Drakes.

Batting first Yelverton batted steadily keeping the scoreboard ticking over with none of the Buckland players able to make the break through.

With Yelverton finishing on 298 thanks in main to a total of 63 extras and James Lamb hitting 10.

Buckland needed a good start in reply but lost an early wicket. Runs were hard to come by as the Yelverton bowlers bowled a good line and length.

Buckland finally finished 73 runs short and closed on 225.

In the under-11 A Division Cornwood hosted Plympton in their final league game of the season.

Plympton started the match by batting, but sadly it did not take long for Cornwood to claim their first wicket with captain Ben Beaumont grabbing a wicket in the first over.

Wickets fell steadily until the final pair of Elliot Hamilton (21 not out) and James Ferriman brought the innings to a close with 203 needed by Cornwood for a win. Cornwood took nine wickets in total with both Ewan Horner and Ethan Bell taking wickets. Nicholas Sawyer took a great caught and bowled.

In reply Cornwood stuck to their task well despite great wicket keeping and tight bowling from Plympton. James Ferriman claimed wickets but splendid innings by Ben Beaumont (21 not out) and Ethan Bell (10 not out) saw the game home finishing on 253.

In under-11 A Division Cup, newly crowned league champions Yelverton Hurricanes took on Cornwood Willows at Langton Park.

Cornwood won the toss and put Yelverton into bat first. Opening batsmen Tom Doyle and Ollie Smith stood up well to the strong bowling of Melissa Beaumont and Rebecca Halliday.

Doyle faced only 13 balls before reaching 25 and retiring not out. Ollie Smith kept the scoreboard moving and hit three fours and the first six of the game before retiring on 26.

Izzy Cooper was next in to bat and added three fours and the second six of the game before reaching 27 and with Jamie Cooper adding an unbeaten 25, the Yelverton innings was starting to mount a considerable target.

Fred Williams (17 not out) completed a dominant innings closing on 160-0.

The first batters for the Willows, Rebecca Halliday and Lucie Cooper, looked determined as they took to the crease.

They staunchly defended their wickets for four overs before Cooper was bowled by Will Hutton in a wicket-maiden. Shortly after this Halliday retired on 25.

Melissa Beaumont (12) maintained Halliday's solid innings and looked strong as she hit some good shots and defended her wicket well before eventually getting out bowled.

That would spell the beginning of the end of the chase as wickets started to fall regularly. The Willows ended the innings on 82-5, 78 runs short.

UNDER-13

IN POOL C of the under-13 cup Plympton St Mary were made to ultimately chase in vain against Tavistock.

Winning the toss Tavistock chose to bat first. Openers Louis Peake and Jacob Staig did not stay long at the crease before they were dismissed off the bowling of Evie Pitman and Sophie Knapp.

This brought Kian Burns to the crease who hit a magnificent 100 not out. Helped by team-mate James White (37), Tavistock finished on 175-5.

Plympton openers Billy Pitman and Harvey Ledger got their team off to a good start before Pitman (11) was bowled by Jack Daspher and Ledger (35) was bowled by James White.

Jack Giles (7), Evie Pitman (7) and Imogen Beasley (17 not out) all added to the total but Plympton fell short by 51 runs and ended on 124-4.

Buckland Braves played host to Plymstock in Buckland's final Pool A cup match.

After winning the toss Plymstock were put into bat first.

Plymstock struggled to dominate the Buckland bowling with Toby Halloran proving too strong for the Plymstock batsman.

James Bruce, though, took the plaudits producing excellent figures and is on a hat-trick going into the next match.

It was classy left-handed batsman Tom Mitch who put up the biggest fight with the bat scoring an impressive 19 not out as his team reached 59-7 in the allotted 20 overs.

In reply Buckland openers Adam Talbott (15) and Gareth Edwards (28 not out) set a steady pace as they neared the Plymstock total, but it was not plain sailing as Plymstock impressed with the ball with James Brailey conceding only three runs in his three overs and Tom Mitch taking a wicket.

However Buckland were not to be denied, eventually going on to reach the required 60 runs in 15 overs.

UNDER 15

YELVERTON threw the league title race wide open after two impressive victories.

First up for them were Plympton, who had only been beaten once this season.

After winning the toss Yelverton elected to bat and consistency was the order of the day as all their batsmen reached double figures in a total of 113-5.

Top scoring was Jack Smyly (26), who was man of the match. In reply Plympton steadily lost wickets and were eventually bowled out for 88 with Smyly bagging three wickets.

In their second game they welcomed unbeaten league leaders Lewdown and elected to bat first, posting a competitive total of 91-7. Smyly (27) top scored.

Lewdown in reply found runs difficult to come by as Yelverton's accurate bowling and impressive fielding, which included three match-turning run-outs, restricted them to 83-8 at the close of their innings.

The result leaves Yelverton, Lewdown and Plymouth all with one defeat each as the season reaches its climax.

Plympton fared better in their second game of the week, entertaining Ivybridge.

Having won the toss and electing to bat, Owen Gannon (86 not out) starred in a total of 150-3 which proved too much for Ivybridge, who were comprehensively dismissed for just 37 runs, Jacob Caunter the pick of the Plympton bowlers.

In the battle for the wooden spoon, Ivybridge visited Whitchurch and having won the toss invited the hosts to bat first.

Whitchurch posted a useful total of 92-7 with Ed Nettleship 26 top scoring.

Ivybridge, despite useful batting in the middle order of Stacey Maskelyne (28), Sam Northmore (25) and a captain's innings of 17 not out from Gemma Lancaster, won narrowly with just three balls to spare in an exciting finish as they finished on 96-4.

Cornwood, who seem to be this season's Jekyll and Hyde team, entertained Plymstock and batted first posting 83-6 in their allotted overs, Miles Hill (29) top scoring.

Plymstock had no trouble in passing that total for the loss of just three wickets in the 15th over with Adam O'Brien (44) leading Plymstock's reply.

Cornwood travelled to Tideford who had beaten them in a low-scoring affair earlier this season in the cup.

Tideford batted first and probably regretted the decision as Mathew Petherbridge spun his web around their top order and Tideford were dismissed for just 60.

Cornwood made no mistake passing the total in the 12th over for the loss of just two wickets.
