Hartslief stars as Plympton go third

PLYMPTON are looking forward to their top-of-the-table clash against Paignton after sending Brixham spinning to a 93-run defeat at Harewood House.

Wes Hartslief top scored with 92 as Plympton accumulated 247 for seven in their 50 overs.

Hartslief and Ross Farrer then took three wickets each as Brixham were held to 158 for eight in reply.

Plympton are now third in the table, 11 points behind leaders Paignton and eight shy of Barton in second, having gone past Budeigh and Brixham in the latest round of fixtures.

“All round a pleasing win over a good side and we move on to Paignton,” said skipper James Carr.

“Paignton look the best all-round team so far this season so it will be a good test for us.”

After Andy Walter and Christian Bunney had been and gone for a brace of 24s, Plympton slowed until Hartslief and Farrer (38) out on 138 for the sixth wicket.

Brixham were slow from the start – only opener Tim Robinson (40) made much headway – and Hartslief dismissing former Devon batter Andy Pugh first ball didn’t help them!

Mark Orchard (37) and Jordan Gregory (23) made a few, but it was desperately slow at times.

Brixham only added 33 in the final 10 overs as their batters shut up shop.

“The pitch was dry so we would have been happy with 175-200 so to get 250 was excellent,” said Carr.

“We were confident if we bowled and fielded as we have all season we would win.

“Brixham batted well at the beginning but once we began to take wickets they started to slow up. Wes and Ross bowled brilliantly in the middle overs to restrict them.
