THERE’E a feast of Twenty20 action at Exeter today (Sunday) when the Devon finals take place.
First on at 10.30 am are South Devon champions Torquay against North Devon.
North Devon beat Hatherleigh in their district final while Torquay eased past Chudleigh in the play-off between the two South Devon competitions.
Torquay are hampered by having neither Thompson brother, Nick Watkin, JustinYau, Ben Passenger or Tim Western.
Mark Gilmour returns after injury and Scott Baldry gets a game.
Josh Hunt, Neal Osborn and Ben Francis are asked to show what they have got at 1st XI level.
‘Twenty20 is always a bit of a lottery as anything can happen so don’t write us off completely, although North Devon have to be favourite,’ said Torquay’s Matt Thompson
‘Well I wouldn’t say that,’ responded North Devon captain Matt Dart.
‘We’ve played well in this format for several seasons now and it would be nice to see our name on the trophy again.
Playing Torquay first seems a far better prospect than Sidmouth as they will be hard to beat.
‘It’s a strange game and it only takes one player to come off to ruin your chances so we mustn’t take Torquay lightly.’
The second semi-final is between Plymouth – last season’s defeated finalists – and Sidmouth. That game should start at 1..15 pm.
Sidmouth qualified as outright East Devon winners, beating Exmouth in the final at Heathcoat.
Plymouth had to overcome Tavistock in the district final between the two competitions running in West Devon.
‘Exeter is usually a good deck so it should make for some big scores and cracking cricket,’ said plymouth captain Matt Hooper.
‘We have a bit of unavailability but in 20/20 it only takes one guy to come off.’
There is an hour-long break for tea prior to the final at 4.30pm.
The winners will go through to represent Devon at the regional final at either Weston or Bristol next month.
