Hall stars as Cornwood hand out a hiding

CORNWOOD skipper Jason Hall played a key role in his side’s hefty 133-run win over visiting Budleigh Salterton.

Hall’s unbeaten 42 helped Cornwood reach 219 for eight in 50 overs after the middle order failed to build on a promising start.

Openers Ben Warren (19) and Jackson Thompson (29) had put on 50, but wickets started to trickle away.

Mark Horwell’s patient 55 off 101 balls stopped Budleigh getting on top and his stand of 79 with Hall was crucial.

Hall returned with the ball after tea to rip the heart out of Budleigh’s middle order on his way to figures of five for 12 from nine overs.

Budleigh plunged from 53 for one to 73 for eight under pressure from Hall, aided and abetted by Matt Skeemer (2-21) and Adam Goodliffe (1-21).

Thompson (2-2) knocked over the tail enders without too much fuss.

Hall was thoroughly pleased with another convincing performance which Cornwood’s top position, but was quick to indicate this game is now over and focus turns to next Saturday for the long trip to Bideford.

There is healthy completion for places at the moment with several players performing well in the 2nd XI , who managed to skittle out Budleigh 2nd XI for just 58 runs, with Andy Bees bowling an inspired spell of 6-21.
