Kents' last pair delay Seaton victory charge

SEATON made it two wins from two C Division outings with a four wicket win at Kentisbeare with skipper Ben Morgan having one of those outings he’ll remember for some time.

Morgan sent down seven maidens in his nine over spell, scored an unbeaten 49, hitting the winning runs with a boundary and he also held a brace of stunning one-handed catches!

The home side won the toss, batted first, and were bowled out for 227.

Morgan and Ben Libby bowled the opening overs and, on the small ground at Kentisbeare, the home side find it tough going. However, they reached 53 without loss and moved to 160 with just four wickets down and still 11 overs remaining.

It was Phil Collins who dragged the visitors back into things with an inspired spell that brought him figures of 4-43. The others to claim wickets were; Robbie Prior (3-39) and Joe Berry (2-62).

Twelve overs into the reply Seaton were potentially in a spot of bother on 80-3. Opener Kev Moran fell to a first ball duck – a terrific Yorker – and Joel Seward (17) and Mark Bray (21) had joined hi back in the Kentisbeare pavilion.

That 80-3 became 108-4 at which point Morgan decided to ‘tough it out’ at one end and a cameo 25 from Collins got the chase on track.

An 87-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Morgan (49no) and Prior (48) got Seaton close before Prior fell to a terrific delivery. Morgan stood firm and it was off his bat that the winning runs were scored.

Morgan said: “It turned out to be a good day for us. My own performance was obviously one I am happy with, but by far the most important thing is that the team got the 20 points.

“It is so pleasing that we are getting contributions from across the team and I am confident that we have sufficient depth now that even when one – or two- don’t perform, others can and will – that’s a very healthy state of affairs for us.

“We have such depth in our bowling and my options are almost unlimited.

“I had six bowlers at Kentisbeare and any one of them I know would happily wheel out nine overs for the cause.”
