Abbots ready for new campaign

ABBOTSKERSWELL are finalising preparations as they look to make 2012 a successful season both on and off the field at Two Mile Oak.

The buzz around the club has been building throughout pre-season and under the direction of head coach and overseas player Josh Dowling and new 1st XI captain Richard Lake the club has been reinvigorated whilst maintaining a friendly atmosphere to enjoy cricket.

Several new signings have strengthened the squad and with an exciting blend of youth and experience the club are looking for each of their three teams in the Devon Cricket League to gain promotion. With a Sunday team in the South Devon Cricket League along with midweek and friendly fixtures there is always something going on at the club.

Through Clubmark accreditation the club have a thriving youth set up where colts aged 8-17 can receive quality coaching from one of the growing team of coaches and play in one of five colts teams in the South Devon Youth Cricket League.

There are now two new level two coaches at the club with Alex Birt and 3rdXI captain Andy Rose having passed the ECB accredited course and four colts have recently attended the Devon Cricket Board’s Young Leaders course as the club continues to build for the future.

Away from the playing side the ground and facilities are in excellent condition with a new scorebox and umpires room standing proud alongside the nets opened by Somerset and England Cricketer Marcus Trescothick in 2010.

Outdoor training has now begun every Tuesday from 6pm for senior players, while colts practice is on Fridays from 5-6.30 for under 11s and 13s and 6-7.30 for under 15s and 17s. All practice is at the club at Two Mile Oak, Totnes Road and new players of all ages and abilities are most welcome.
