Abbots hit problems midway through the season when they lost five senior players in quick succession, the bulk of them to A Division rivals Paignton.
Staving off relegation became the priority from then on, which Abbots achieved by finishing one place above the relegation zone.
Inevitably, there was a knock-on effect to the second and third teams, both of which managed to hold on to their league places.
The youth set up continued to thrive with many colts flourishing in the senior teams. – and one of them was honoured at the awards night, held in a marquee at the Two Mile Oak ground.
Fifteen year Hugo Whitlock’s step up to 1st XI opening bowler earned him colt of the year and he also shared the best performance of the year award with 14-year-old spinner Toby Codd when they dismissed Alphington 2ndXI for only 24, taking 4-4 and 5-0 respectively.
The 1st XI kept their A Division status with new skipper Richard Lake himself taking player of the year for scoring 387 runs and taking 15 wickets in his first full season for the club. Lake is on the left in the picture (left) receiving his award from Dickie Acton.
Club coach Josh Dowling took bowler of the year and Richard Acton batsman of the year with 324 runs in the 1st XI, in addition to scoring a hundred for the second team.
Second team player of the year went to Haydn Crocker for his all-round efforts with 269 runs and 11 wickets.
Matt Beasant took the 3rd XI accolade despite playing half the year in the 1st and 2nd XIs.
