CORNWOOD skipper Craig Harris will warn his players they underestimate lowly South Devon at their peril!
The Corns are one off the top of the table while South Devon are rooted to the foot of it.
The form book points to a Cornwood win, but Harris said that sort of thinking is dangerous.
“As a team we know that this week may not, on paper, be the toughest game but I am not of that opinion,” said Harris.
“Any team in this division that goes in to a game expecting to win will be the one that gets the shock defeat.
“It’s a tight division and, as I have said before, it’s the sort where any team can take a result in any game.
“With Exeter next week we are looking at this game as one to keep our momentum as a team moving forward.”
Cornwood medium pacer Mike Wood is unavailable, but Mark Horwell and Ali Craig are back from absence.
South Devon have to start winning and doing it fast if they are going to get away from the danger area.
Second-placed Cornwood won’t be an easy team to turn it around against, but skipper Adrian Hewings said his team must start reversing their fortunes.
“Cornwood are going well and putting in very good performances, so we know it's a tough test, but we must start to put performances together,” said Hewings.
He added: “We must apply ourselves for the full overs not parts of games.
Team news is that seamers Sam Davies and Will Littlechild return, replacing the unavailable Pat Duke and Paul Hooper.
ABBOTSKERSWELL will be close to full strength for the visit of Shobrooke Park.
Mark Porter, Richard Ashworth, Dickie Acton and Richard Lake all come back in.
Abbots were one of the few teams to play last Saturday, holding on for a dire draw at Cornwood.
Skipper Lake has taken soundings from the players and said a massive improvement is needed.
“Cornwood were let off the hook with shoddy fielding and too many dropped catches - and should never have reached more than 120,” said Lake.
“More discipline is required with batting and focus on the field.
“Shobrooke wont be giving us any easy chances and we must not take them likely.
“We are a team that tends to improve in the second half of the season and we are a long way off that yet.
“Getting back to winning ways is what's required, there is still a long way to go.”
PAIGNTON go to the County Ground aiming to overturn leaders Exeter in their own backyard.
The city side are 28 points clear at the top and Paignton captain Andy Kingdon isn’t underestimating the challenge ahead.
“Exeter look like being the favourites for the division, so I expect a good test for our youngsters,” said Kingdon.
Exeter skipper Jon Tiipper has played against Paignton often enough to know where their threats are and he has a healthy respect for Kingdon and Co.
“Paignton represent a real challenge as their league position is not a reflection of the ability they have,” said Tipper.
“We know it will be difficult but we are looking forward to getting back on the pitch.”
Paignton’s Mike Pedley is out injured, Steven George is at a wedding and George Yates is at an Elton John concert with his family.
Pete Taylor, Mark Smith and Terry Farkins come in.
Exeter will be without seamer Tshepo Legodi and will make a late decision on his replacement.
AFTER a rain-affected stalemate against Brixham at Dean Cross last week, Plymstock are looking to travel to bBraunton for a full game!
The match was in the balance last weekend with Brixham 25-2 after 13 overs chasing 120 to win.
Second-bottom Plymstock are looking to get some results behind them and start climbing the table away from the danger zone - and captain Dave orchard wants that to start this week.
“At the moment we feel if we get a start we can push on.
“We've had some individual performances but we need to do it as a team to start racking up those points.”
Plymstock been hit by a bit of an injury crisis. Morgan Parkinson is out due to a leg strain and new signing James Nichols is ill.
Ian Whalley returns to the second team, but up come 2nd XI skipper George Barnicott, seamer Liam Savage and batter Steve Coomer.
“It's big changes to the side but they all bring something different,” said Orchard.
Braunton skipper Jon Baglow has been intelligence gathering on Plymstock as the teams have not met since 2004 when they were both in the A Division.
“I have been trying to find out about Plymstock as we haven't played them for a number of years. It will be a challenge we look forward to,” said Baglow.
Braunton have had had a lot of disruptions in recent weeks, but Baglow says that can’t be used as an excuse for patchy play.
“Our performances, like the season, have been a little stop-start so it will be good to put some plans into action and get a few more players regularly available,” said Baglow.
Jas Kalsi comes back in after being unavailable for two weeks due to injury.
Darren Hawkings comes back in and young seamer Dan Crocombe gets another game after his debut at Cornwood.
PLYMPTON skipper Andy Walter has an improvement wish list for the trip to Brixham.
Walter feels Plympton have only performed at their peak once or twice this season and need to buck up if they want to feature in the promotion race.
“We need to start to put good totals on the board and not give cheap wickets away. Bowling wises we need to be more disciplined,” said Walter,
“Brixham are a bit of an unknown for us really. We see they are doing well so it's going to be a difficult game at their place.”
Brixham, currently third in the table, have had some cricket over the past couple of weeks so shouldn’t be ring rusty for what skipper Mark Orchard accepts will be a toughie.
“It is the first time this group of players has played Plympton in a league game,” said Orchard. “The guys are looking forward to testing themselves against another ex-Premier side.
“Hopefully we can keep the momentum going from last couple of weeks and stay in touch with top two.”
Plympton lose Lewis Gregory but gain Dave Wrench and Ross Farrer. Gregory has not been released by Somerset.
Joe Hyde replaced Adam Edwards for Brixham.
