MARK Lathwell turned in a match-winning performance for Braunton 2nd XI in their five-run win over Bradninch.
Having collapsed to 97 for six – Harry Booker (39) scoring more than anyone – Lathwell (65no) and son Sam (44) put on 109 to reach 206 for seven innings closed.
Will Leaves (59) and Lucas Fenck (35) then helped Bradninch reach 192 for five and victory seemed assured.
Lathwell senior had other ideas though and took five for 28 as Bradninch were bowled out for 200 in the last over.
There was no play at all in the games between Stoke Gabriel and Sandford or Budleigh and Hatherleigh.
Paul Horne and Matt Ball both made half centuries as Chudleigh totted up 170 for eight against Heathcoat.
But Heathcoat had a match-winner in A Thompson, whose 72 steered them to a five-wicket win.
JIM Parker and Pete Gartrell were Barton’s men of the moment in a thrilling one-run win over Plymouth 3rd XI.
Barton appear to have done the hard bit by skittling Plymouth for 93 in a 35-over game – Gartrell (3-16) backed up by Mike Lievesley, Alex Hunt and Andy McVeigh with two wickets each.
Martin Gill, Dhanuka Karrupa and Dan Goody then reduced Barton to 84 for nine after Hunt (26) and McVeigh (18) had given them a start.
Last pair Parker and Gartrell poked and prodded the last 10 runs needed to see Barton over the line with three balls to spare.
It was a big win for Barton as it moved them off the bottom of the table and out of the bottom two completely.
This Saturday’s home game against Budleigh Salterton will decide whether they remain in the clear.
