Devon make late changes for Bedfordshire trip

FAST bowler Trevor Anning will be missing from Devon’s one-day side for the first time in a decade as injury has ruled him out against Bedfordshire tomorrow in the Minor Counties Trophy.
The 31-year-old paceman has been an automatic selection in the cup side since May 2003 when he played against Shropshire at Torquay.
Anning has played in every game since then, up to the win over Cornwall at Redruth two weeks ago.
The game was won and lost by the time Anning put his hand out to stop a Sam Hockin drive fizzing past him and suffered a split hand.
The wound has taken longer to heal than Anning or Devon had hoped and he has dropped out of the party travelling to Dunstable.
Since featuring in that win over Shropshire at Torquay Anning has played in 37 consecutive Minor Counties Trophy games, taking 56 wickets.
Amazingly, there is one player in the team with an unbroken run of appearances stretching back further than Anning. That’s his Exmouth team-mate David Lye.
Lye is on 39 after the Cornwall game, two more than Anning, having started his sequence against Cornwall in June 2002.
Mark Orchard, an Exmouth team-mate of Lye and Anning’s comes into the 12 as the extra seam bowling option.
Devon already have Matt Kidd in the squad and as 12th man in the last two games may decide to give him a run out.
The game is meaningless for both counties as neither can qualify for the last eight knock-out stages of the competition.
In a pool of five teams there is always a loose end and the game between Bedfordshire and Devon is it.
Cornwall and Hertfordshire have already qualified for the group and the best Devon can do is finish third ahead of Oxfordshire on run-rate.
Bedfordshire are using the game to look at new faces. They have made six changes in total to the team beaten by Cornwall over the Bank Holiday weekend.
