BABBACOMBE Cricket Club have turned to Steve Broad to get them out of the Devon League F Division this summer.
The Walls Hill side have been in steady decline for more than a decade – and three relegations since 2008 have left them at the lowest level in the league.
Broad has had a previous stint as skipper which ended in 2005 – in the days when Babbacombe were a B Division side.
The Walls Hill committee hope Broad can turns things around in his second term as captain.
“Steve is determined to get the 1st XI promoted after several relegations in recent seasons,” said Babbacombe secretary Ron Thomson.
“The club has recruited new players, including Dave Palmer from Barton and Steve Lewis, who is returning to the club after three years away.”
Lewis, who comes from a long-line of Babbacombe players, has also been with Barton.
Nets have already started and will continue at Westlands School, Torquay every Tuesday between 7.30-9pm.
Pre-season friendlies have been arranged and structured, outdoor training sessions will start at Walls Hill after the clocks go forward.
New players are welcome and any potential recruits for South Devon’s second-oldest cricket club – only Torquay have been around longer – should contact Broad on 07966 235948.
