CHUDLEIGH laid their Dartington & Totnes bogey in the best possible way with a 64-run win over them at Kate Brook.

Two defeats last season by D&T cost Chudleigh promotion and sent South Devon up instead.

So Chudleigh will have enjoyed the feeling of going top off the shop as a consequence of beating D&T.

Devin Marias (82) and Jack Vittles (23) were the main run getters for Chudleiigh in a total of 192 all out.

The stand of the innings was one of 111 for the third wicket between Marias and Matt Heather (22).

Pick of the bowlers with five for 23 was Ian Bransdon. Ryan Stevenson claimed four for 23.

It looked like game on when Stevenson (42) was helping D&T reach 68 for three in reply.

Then the wheel fell off. Vittles (3-39), Rob Clarke (2-7) and Matty Ball (2-29) all got among the wickets as D&T nosedived to 87 for six, 95 for nine and all-out for 128.

Victory took Chudleigh past former leaders Hatherleigh, who started but failed to finish against Tavistock.

Delighted Chudleigh skipper Jon Martin said the team got all three elements of their game together on the same day and got their rewarfd.

“Pretty much everything went to plan for once, apart from falling just short of 200,” said Martin.

“It was a solid batting performance on not the easiest of wickets to score runs on,

“Bowling wise we were always in control, taking wickets all the way through.

“With the weather coming in the last wicket did take its time in coming as we could not bring our pace bowlers back on.

“But we managed to pick it up just in time as the rain came in about five minutes later.”

BARTON skipper Adam Parker feels the Cricketfield Road side have turned a corner after beating Lewdown by seven wickets.

Barton have been good in parts this season without showing any consistency.

Against one of the fancied sides in the division - one that has only been beaten once since the end of the 2009 season – Barton turned it on.

Parker (2-27) and Rinash Jinan (2-31) softened Lewdown up, then Stuart Bowker spun the rest of them out with a five-for-14 haul.

Ed Squire (20) and Rob Mutch (35) had taken Lewdown to 110 for four before left-armer Bowker was wheeled on.

Barton had a wobble at the start – they were 10 for three – but Parker and Sean Adderley sorted them out.

Parker was unbeaten on 80 and Adderley 30 not out in a match-winning stand of 119.

Victory hoists Barton up to third in the table, just five points behind leaders Chudleigh.

“We will look to build on this win and string some good results together.,” said Parker.

“We bowled well creating pressure and taking wickets during the later stages of their innings.

Although , Stuart Bowker took five wickets, those can be credited to earlier like Damon Calland , who kept things very tight .

“After a dodgy start to batting we managed to put together a good partnership between Sean Adderley and myself and knock the runs off without any further trouble.”

HATHERLEIGH had plenty to do at Tavistock when their game was rained off.

Dave Manning (63) and Ian Gray (40) had helped Tavvy reach a respectable 201 for five.

A partnership of 72 for the fourth wicket between skipper Shaun Daymond (22) and Manning helped the score along.

Hatherleigh were 70 for three when the heavens opened with 20 overs to go – all three wickets falling to Jamie Stephens. Hugh Romans was on 22 not out.

ALPHINGTON ran out of time to get Axminster all out in a game which ended drawn.

Nick Ainscough clattered along to a century as Alphington posted 248 for seven declared in the final over.

Aincough, who it three sixes and 10 fours, put on 137 for the fifth wicket with Paul James (52).

There were handy chips ins from Andy Shepherd (21) and Ben Morris (31).

Axminster were 163 for two with 10 overs to go thanks to knocks of 63 each from Dan Murnane and Tristan Wakeley, who put on 94.

It all went right for Alphington as Axminster lost their next three wickets without adding a run!

The damage was done in the space of five balls by Stuart Shaw (2-34) and Paul James.

Nick Taylor made 25 not out to see Axminster to the draw at 210 for five.

IT is becoming a season of frustration for Thorverton, who were called off against Barnstaple & Pilton without a ball bowled.

Thors have now had four games rained off – that’s half their scheduled fixtures – which is hampering their hopes of mounting a promotion push.

Skipper Ali Fury will be hoping for better luck with the weather when lowly Tavistock pay a visit this Saturday.
