B DIVISION
ABBOTSKERSWELL 2nd XI put a couple of defeats behind them to beat Bideford by three wickets at Two Mike Oak.
Bideford were bowled out for 156 – a below par score on a good wicket – with Anthony Thekkepalakkal taking 5-32 from his 13 overs and Sean Green (3-10) to mop up the tail.
Bideford had gone off at a cracking pace through John Weeks (43) and Fergus Bradbeer (50), reaching 50 in the first 12 overs, but from 90 for one they slumped to 147 for eight against Thekkepalakkal and Green.
In reply despite the loss of an early wicket, skipper Guy Harrison-Roberts and Andy Lock built a solid partnership of 83 before Lock fell for 29.
Harrison-Roberts fell soon after for 40 and the promising position they had built looked in danger of falling as Abbots slipped to 117-6 with Mike Lemmings (4-32) doing the bulk of the damage.
However Haydn Crocker (18no) and Thekkepalakkal (14) had other ideas and almost saw the team home before James Cartwright hit the winning boundary with two overs to spare.
Brixham declared 12 overs early against South Devon and were left to regret that decision as they lost by four wickets.
After 17 year old Tom Watford had struck a maiden league century, and Richard Ward (46) and Wes Fowler (50) chipped in, skipper Sam Thomas probably thought 257 for two was enough and promptly declared 12 overs early.
A stand of 115 between Ian Shepherd (66) and Ryan Maunder (50), plus 43 by Kevin Murphy, got South Devon down to 13 to win in two overs. Max Ellis did it in three hits – a single and two sixes!
There were two tons in the game between Kingsbridge and Sidmouth – Ed Church and Simon Sobczek respectively – but no outright result.
Graham Peach top scored with 78 for Ipplepen in their 207 for six against Ottery, who were bowled out for 125 by Matt Hodgson (3-16), Kiwi Sam Barrett (3-52) and Alan Boon (2-14).
Richard Gott took four for 46 for Alphington against Plymstock – and made 32 with the bat – but ended up on the losing side by 61 runs.
